Cafe de Paris...a taste of France

Cafe de Paris...a taste of France

The other night my sisters took me out for dinner to a charming little French bistro in Edmonds for a belated birthday celebration. Yes, that is a little glimpse of the sun that has been hiding for days here in western Washington! Can you see the Olympic mountains peaking over the clouds? Perhaps spring is just around the corner!

Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup...

Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup...

Though I have been loving these cold, crisp days of winter, it seems like there are a lot of colds and sickness going around. Whenever I feel a cold coming on, one of my first thoughts is, "I'd better make a pot of chicken noodle soup." My mother, the RN, had a recurring mantra when we became ill as children, and even as adults...."force fluids". One of the best parts of chicken noodle soup is the broth, in my opinion.

Instead of New Year's Resolutions...

Instead of New Year's Resolutions...

I'm really not a big fan of New Year's Resolutions. When I've made them in the past, I was always gung ho in the first few days of January to work on them. But, as the month wore on, and work piled up as I did all the year end bookkeeping that needs to happen when you are self employed, my resolve to work on those resolutions began to fade and I ended up feeling like a loser. Welcome 2017!

After spending a few days in the mountains near Leavenworth, it seems a bit surreal to come home to freezing temperatures, icy windshields, and a little snow here on the coast of Puget Sound! I must admit I love the cold, crisp, and clear days of winter like this...with beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Walking outside perks you right up and you feel alive, ready to take on the New Year.

Come in today, come in...

Come in today, come in...

I love Christmas carols! Each year I look forward to listening to and singing the age old familiar carols as I decorate about the house, ride in my car, sing in church. In our family we sing many of them together on Christmas eve after dinner, before my brother Jonathan (who took over this tradition after Dad died) reads the Christmas story from Luke 2.

Advent preparations begin...

Advent preparations begin...

I love the season of Advent, preparing for the celebration of Christmas. One of the newer traditions that I so enjoy is the now annual Christmas wreath making party at the Forde's home. You may remember I wrote about this event last year too here. The party actually took place on the first Sunday of Advent and as I was driving home, I began to think about all that this means.

A Little Pumpkin Baby Shower...

Just had to squeeze in one more fall post before we jump into the Christmas season! I know you have all been seeing Christmas decor in stores for months but really, December isn't even here yet. So, for those of you like me who still have bowls of mini pumpkins and fall leaves around your home, this post is for you!
