Come away and rest awhile...

Read MoreWith Valentine's Day just around the corner, I wanted to add just a little touch of red throughout the main living areas of our home. My mother always added a little special decor for each major holiday so I guess I'm carrying on her tradition. Mom just added simple things...not much glitz and glamour. You can go crazy with themed decor with stores like Michael's or Hobby Lobby nearby, but that's just not my style. As you can see in the photo above, I just added some primroses to a bowl for a little color.
Read MoreA birthday was coming up for a special young lady. Knowing she loves peanut butter and chocolate, I decided to make a chocolate cake with peanut butter butter cream icing. Having made one once before for a nurse friend at work, I knew that those flavors work wonderfully in a cake. After all, who does not love a Reese's Peanut Butter cup?

Read MoreWhen our sons were in grade school years ago, my husband and I would pick them up from school on wintry Friday afternoons and head for Stevens Pass Ski Resort. After a snack in the car on the drive up to the Pass, they would jump into a ski lesson at 5 o'clock or join their friends out on the slopes.

Spending a few days in the mountains was a balm for my soul. After the busyness of the Christmas season, the slow pace of life was so welcome. And...there was snow...lots and lots of snow!
Read MoreThis Christmas season began with a fun party at my cousin's family home. Besides the fun of just getting a group of gals together, we had a project to complete...Wreath making 101!
Read MoreAs I was thinking about the Advent season this year, I saw a Christmas card that highlighted the words from a favorite Christmas Carol, O Holy Night. The words...a thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices...just seemed to leap off the card and resonated with me. After the recent shootings in Paris, Colorado, and California, the world feels weary, broken, hopeless.
Read MoreLast Thursday, I shared a devotional at an early morning women's group I attend once a month. Two friends of mine formed the group several years ago, reaching out primarily to business women, looking for an opportunity to share faith and life together before the start of the work day. From the very first meeting, these women were open, authentic, trust worthy, and intent about living a life that reflects faith in Jesus Christ.
Read MoreLast night was my turn to host Book Club at my house. A friend who lives up the street invited me to join this new Book club several months ago. As an added bonus, she invited us for dinner on her deck...hard to pass that up! Though most of the women were new to me, I'm always amazed by how quickly women can connect and open up, sharing stories of our lives, in a group that feels safe...and comfortable...with no need to impress.
Read MoreWith Halloween just around the corner, I finally ventured out to a local pumpkin patch to gather some pumpkins. I must admit sometimes I am tempted to just pick up a few pumpkins from one of the grocery markets, but then I remember all the trips over the years to a local farm and I just have to go...schlepping through the mud and straw to find that perfect pumpkin...or two or three!
Read MoreWhen fall comes, I'm always drawn to apples. I love the different variaties, the crunch, the taste...especially Honey Crisp. Apples can be found in abundance near Cashmere and Wenatchee at this time of year, and even our local grocery markets lower their prices. Perfect time to go buy a bag or a box!
Read MoreLast weekend my cousin, Kirsten, and I journeyed to Idaho to attend the Memorial service for one of our dear Aunts. As we took the back roads through Duvall and North Bend to avoid the Friday morning work traffic, we reminisced about family reunions with our large extended family.

As soon as the Fall season rolls around, I get the urge to make a good pot of soup. I love soup! I love having a container of homemade soup in the fridge in case one of my guys or a friend drops in for lunch, and it makes an ideal light supper, along with a tasty piece of bread.
Read MoreI was sitting on our front porch one morning recently, thinking back over the summer. If you've been reading along with this blog for a while, you know that I am a "summer" girl. I love the sunshine, blue skies, and any possible time I can spend enjoying the water. The past summer was certainly full of sunshine, a record breaker for the Seattle area...no complaints from me!
Read MoreSeveral years ago I was watching the cooking channel on TV and heard Paula Deen talking about easy, go to recipes....right up my alley! I love to bake, especially when the recipe is quick, easy to put together, and has ingredients that I usually have on hand. Of course, the most important thing is that it tastes delicious!
Read MoreWell, did you see the bridal shower post from the other day? I promised to follow up with the wedding so here goes! As I mentioned before, Abby is the daughter of our pastor, Mark, and his wife, Lori. She is the youngest of their five children...yes, their "baby."

A young woman who grew up in our church was getting married. Two friends and I decided we should throw a bridal shower for her and arranged a date. The bride, Abby, just happens to be our pastor's daughter and is beloved by many in our congregation. She and her family came to Lake Stevens when she was just 5 years old so we have all had the pleasure of watching her grow up and mature into the lovely woman she is today. Abby is one of those young women that you can't help but admire!
