We made some progress on our loft cabin above the shop in Plain last week. If you know my husband, the builder, you know that he loves to attack a building project and work very hard (and quickly) to get it done. People are always amazed by what he can accomplish in a day on his job sites! Due to financial and time constraints, our loft cabin has been moving along slowwwwly.

Part of the slowness has come from his goal to mill, dry, sand and prefinish all the interior wood and trim, all from local trees. This is a time consuming process...especially the "drying" part that really cannot be rushed. Other than the finish boards for the staircase, the wood is all up now! Yeah!

On our previous projects in Plain and Leavenworth, we always used tongue and groove on the walls and ceiling to give that woodsy, cabin feel. This time, we decided to do things a little differently and installed board and batten on the walls, tongue and groove on the ceilings, and shingles in the gable ends for contrast. We did use sheetrock on several short walls, painted with an Old World paint application to break up all the wood walls. I love how it all turned out...especially the look of board and batten using blue pine. (Sorry about the poor quality iphone photos!)

The builder man finished the cabinet for the bathroom several weeks ago. He used our own logs and shed antler pieces for the hardware. Isn't it just perfect for a mountain loft? Brandon, our skilled granite guy from Solid Rock Creations, gave us a good deal on a remnant and installed it along with the sinks.

Our fireplace mason, Bob of Level Masonry, returned to put the river rock on the fireplace...He truly is a rock star! Bob has been our stone guy for over 20 years and has truly become a friend, not just a talented subcontractor. He did all the stone on the exterior of the building and we have received so many compliments and inquiries about his work. The mantle was installed after I took this photo :(.

Another friend from our church, Scott, and his buddy, Brady, came over to install the hard wood floor for us last Saturday. I will have photos of that soon. We are so blessed to have such wonderful connections with skilled craftsmen!

Now, we only have the staircase to trim out and....the kitchen! That's the biggie...and the most costly to complete. Short of winning the lottery (which won't happen since I don't buy tickets !), the kitchen will come together when we can save up some funds.
